Learning Outcome #1

Framing Statement:

What I immediately notice between my drafts of Project #1 is the organization of them. My first draft remained as one, singular blob of a paragraph where I jotted down whatever that came to mind. Where as, in the final draft, the organization is much more apparent as paragraphs are formed, and topics are brought together. I also notice in my revisions the difference between how I open, and introduce my essay. In my first draft I begin the essay with “Food is not just about getting the nutrients and energy we need in order to survive. Rather, food is one of the core experiences of life.”, and in the final version I start with “The singular purpose of food is not solely about obtaining the nutrients and energy we need in order to survive. Rather, food is one of the core experiences of life.” Although both sound almost identical, revisions as such allowed my essay to become much stronger. A major revision which occurs in all of my essays which was prevalent during this project, was the incorporation of our sources. In my first draft of Project #1, no quotes are to be found as I simply write what I can, and basically fill in the blanks later. This was very apparent in Project #1. For instance, in my first draft I tend to set myself up for where I will utilize quotations from our sources. One example in my essay was when I wrote “What kind of world would it be if every single human on earth was walking around with a plastic bottle sipping on blended up chemicals and powders?” in my first draft, and revised it by adding a quotation from the Widdicombe essay where I stated immediately after that line: “Without food, life would be absolutely miserable. Ethan Brown, C.E.O of Beyond Meat, a company which produces chicken and beef substitutes announced in Widdicombe’s essay “The End of Food”: “People have been eating meat for two million years…They’re hardwired to love meat, and they love the trappings of meat…” (Widdicombe 10) In terms of my development, from the first draft I am able to develop elaboration, incorporation of quotations, and combining my personal beliefs with the thoughts of Widdicombe’s article.
